To commemorate the debut of the iconic Mini automobile in 1959, Mini is launching a limited run of 1,959 units of its first-ever e-bike, the Mini E-Bike 1. This special edition bike, designed in collaboration with French firm Angell Mobility, combines style, functionality, and innovation.
The Mini E-Bike 1 is a single-speed bicycle with a sleek aluminum frame and carbon fork, offering a lightweight and durable construction. Customers can choose between two frame sizes/configurations: the S (small) with a sloping top tube for easy access, and the M (medium) with a mostly horizontal top tube. Each frame size is available in two different colors: Ocean Wave Green or Vibrant Silver, adding a touch of personalization to the bike. It’s worth noting that there are limited units of each frame size/color combination available.
Powering the Mini E-Bike 1 is a 250-watt rear hub motor that provides electric assistance to the rider. With three levels of assistance to choose from, riders can reach a top speed of 25 km/h (16 mph). The bike is equipped with a removable lithium battery that offers a range of up to 40 miles (64 km) on a single 2-hour charge.
One of the standout features of the Mini E-Bike 1 is its one-piece handlebar/stem, which integrates a 2.4-inch built-in touchscreen. This display allows riders to easily access information such as assist mode, current speed, battery charge, and distance traveled.
Security is a top priority for the Mini E-Bike 1. Riders can use the accompanying smartphone app to activate the antitheft system. If the bike is tampered with, it will emit an audible alarm and flash its lights. Additionally, the bike’s drive system will be locked, deterring potential thieves. In the unfortunate event that the bike is stolen, its GPS coordinates can be tracked using the same app.
The Mini E-Bike 1 also features practical additions such as an LED headlight for enhanced visibility and four LED turn indicators. The turn indicators, located on the ends of the handlebars and the battery (in place of a rear rack), can be activated easily via buttons on the handlebars. Other notable components include a leather-free Brooks saddle and grips, 27.5-inch wheels with aluminum alloy rims, and essential accessories like a kickstand, mudguards, and chain guard.
While specific weight details have not been provided, the Mini E-Bike 1 is expected to be similar to Angell’s Cruiser model, which weighs around 18 kg (40 lb).
The limited edition Mini E-Bike 1 is a fusion of Mini’s iconic design and Angell Mobility’s expertise in e-bike technology. With its premium features and exquisite aesthetics, this e-bike pays homage to the Mini’s rich heritage while offering a sustainable and stylish mode of transportation.
