Jeep Teams Up with Addax to Introduce Versatile Camper System for Gladiator Pickup

Posted on November 15, 2023November 15, 2023 by Anuja Desai

Jeep is making its mark in the overland market by collaborating with Addax Overland, a company based in Utah, to develop a flexible and multifunctional camping system for the Jeep Gladiator pickup. Unlike traditional camper solutions, the new Jeep x Addax Gladiator Overlanding Camper features a modular construction with a retractable roof shell, rooftop tent, and additional accessories. This innovative camper system offers buyers the option to keep it simple or transform it into a micro-RV with multiple functionalities.

The partnership between Jeep and Addax was first announced at SEMA 2022, where they showcased a compact camping solution. In contrast to other campers in the market, the co-branded micro-camping vehicle was designed to complement a fully equipped Wrangler and tackle challenging off-road terrains. The collaboration was a success, prompting the two companies to team up again for another unique design.

The new system begins with a basic truck cap constructed from 16-gauge stainless steel, providing durability and resistance to corrosion. The cap features flip-up hatch doors on both sides and flush-mounted windows for enhanced functionality and aesthetics. Additionally, the retractable top of the cap allows owners to access the pickup bed, utilize the roof rack, or transport tall cargo without removing the entire cap.

While it is possible to camp under just the steel cap, the limited bed size of the Gladiator may not make it the most comfortable option for overnight stays. To address this, Addax offers an aluminum-framed rooftop tent that seamlessly mounts to the cap, eliminating the need for crossbars or a platform rack. The tent offers ample headroom, standing at 76 inches when open. It also boasts a spacious interior with a foam mattress measuring 106 x 59 inches, providing a comfortable sleeping space for two individuals.

The camper system also includes integrated LED lighting, 200-W solar panels, an adjustable-speed exhaust fan on the tent roof, and a sound-dampening foam headliner with a Moab topo pattern. Furthermore, Addax plans to introduce additional accessories such as a 270-degree awning, rack system, truck bed organization, and kitchen kit to enhance the overall camping experience.

Jeep introduced the new Addax camper during the unveiling of the 2024 Gladiator at the Detroit Auto Show. The official debut is expected to take place at the upcoming SEMA show or possibly at the Easter Jeep Safari in the following year. The base price for the cap is $4,000, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in Spring 2024.

With this new collaboration, Jeep is capitalizing on the growing demand for camping solutions tailored to the unique dimensions of the Gladiator pickup. The modular design and range of accessories offered by the Jeep x Addax Gladiator Overlanding Camper provide buyers with a versatile and customizable camping experience, making it a valuable addition to the overland market.
