Adobe, the software giant, has unveiled a range of new generative AI enhancements across its core product lines. In an effort to capitalize on the growing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI), Adobe has introduced three new AI models as part of its generative AI imaging tool, Firefly. Additionally, the company has made improvements to Illustrator and Adobe Express, and enhanced Photoshop’s text-to-image capabilities.
This announcement comes at the beginning of Adobe’s annual MAX event in Los Angeles, where they join other major tech giants such as Google and Microsoft in incorporating generative AI into their mainline products.
During the keynote address, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen expressed that generative technology is not an end but rather an ingredient in the creative process. The focus is on integrating it directly into workflows to fuel creativity and deliver the power and precision that users expect from Adobe.
During the two-hour-long keynote, Adobe unveiled several AI models, including Firefly Image 2, which is an upgraded version of the original Firefly AI image generator. The new model offers higher-resolution images with enhanced details, such as foliage, skin texture, hair, hands, and facial features, for rendering photorealistic humans. It is available to try today via the web-based Firefly beta and will be coming soon to Creative Cloud apps.
Adobe also introduced two new Firefly models for generating vector images and design templates. The Firefly Vector Model is the first generative AI tool for creating vector graphics using text prompts, and it is envisioned as a valuable resource for marketing and ad graphic creation, ideation, and mood boards.
Adobe’s venture into the AI race began earlier this year with the introduction of the Firefly family of generative AI tools for generating images, text effects, audio, vectors, and 3D content. Firefly is one of several generative AI image tools, including Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion. Since its launch, users have generated over 3 billion images through Adobe Firefly.
Adobe is taking a careful approach to integrating AI features into its popular products. The company actively engages with the creative community through beta releases to gather feedback and improve future versions. Firefly is built on content from Adobe’s Stock library, publicly licensed content, and public domain content.
Narayen emphasized Adobe’s commitment to delivering high-quality models in a responsible manner. The company ensures transparency about the data used to train the models, aiming for commercial safety.
Furthermore, Adobe Express, the web-based design tool, is also incorporating AI with the Firefly Design model. This model allows users to generate templates using a new Text-to-template feature. Additionally, Adobe Lightroom, a popular editing tool for professional photographers, introduces a new Lens Blur tool that simulates the effect of a high-priced, low F-stop lens. Adobe also showcased GenStudio, a solution designed to assist large companies in scaling on-brand content creation by integrating Creative Cloud, Firefly, Express, Frame.io, Analytics, AEM Assets, and Workfront project manager.
The inclusion of generative AI features in Adobe’s products demonstrates the company’s strong focus on leveraging AI capabilities to generate media content. It also highlights how enterprises are experimenting with AI to meet the increasing demand for content. Adobe’s efforts in this area are likely to shape the future of creativity and content creation.
